Book Keeper

Role and responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with clients and colleagues.
  • Process all Sage / Xero data and relevant paperwork in respect of the Month End Checklist QF9013 and Year-End Checklist: QF9018 adhering to BookCheck Procedures.
  • Reconcile all bank accounts and VAT accounts adhering to BookCheck Procedures. Provide figures for client VAT Return.
  • Post all relevant journals for the month i.e. depreciation, accruals & prepayments, payroll adhering to BookCheck Procedures.
  • Send month-end and year-end to BookCheck accountant, copying supervisor by the agreed deadline, ensuring that accountant and supervisor are made aware at the earliest opportunity if the deadline is going to be missed.
  • Provide client with Aged Creditors and Debtors report and any other agreed Sage / Xero reports.
  • Respond promptly to any client queries.
  • Ensure the client BookCheck team is kept up-to-date of any client changes and or problems that need resolving.
  • Where appropriate ensure regular and accurate backups are kept at all times (not required for BookCheck Online clients)
  • Identify possible new business opportunities within existing accounts and encourage current clients to take advantage of further BookCheck services and expertise.

Required skills and experience

  • 3 years of (UK) Bookkeeping experience
  • High-level Xero skills – at least 1 year of considerable use. Recent Xero use is an advantage.
  • Good IT knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Able to do most, if not all of these tasks:
  • Bank – Input and reconcile.
  • VAT – Input and reconcile.
  • Sales & Purchase Ledger – Input and reconcile.
  • Accruals & Prepayment Journals
  • Payroll Journals
  • Depreciation Journals
  • Print run of Profit & Loss & Balance Sheet
  • Petty Cash – Input and reconcile.
  • Credit Card – Input and reconcile.
  • Manage Nominal Ledger & Chart of Accounts
  • Understanding the basic principles of Accounting.

Desired Skills and experience

  • Knowledge of Sage is desirable but not essential as we now major in Xero
  • Some knowledge of Xero apps e.g. Receiptbank, Hubdoc – desirable but not essential
  • Xero accreditation
